Soft and chewy on the inside and slightly crunchy on the outside, I can assure you this is the best monster cookie recipe.
I don't remember growing up with monster cookies, but when scouring through our family recipes at my moms house, I found this original monster cookies recipe and quickly pilfered it! The original monster cookies recipe makes 5 dozen cookies. That is A LOT of cookies! I’ve altered the recipe slightly and reduced the size to the perfect amount - two and a half dozen soft monster cookies.
What Makes these the Best Monster Cookies
- They are packed with m&m’s, chocolate chips, and peanut butter!! I'm a big fan of cookies loaded with multiple treats --how about you?
- This recipe uses simple ingredients and is extremely fast to make!
- You don't need to chill the cookie dough before baking. This means you'll be making cookie dough, baking cookies, and on to the best part - eating cookies within 20 minutes!
- The insides are soft, and the outsides are chewy.
When testing out this recipe, I accidentally put wax paper on my cookie tray instead of parchment paper. Smoke everywhere. Smoke detector going off and 1 year old napping. WHAT a mom fail. Luckily, I could drown my sorrows in monster cookies… Make sure to prepare your baking tray lined with *parchment paper!
How to Make Monster Cookies:
- Begin by creaming together your butter and sugars for about 2 minutes. It’s important to start with room temperature butter in order to allow the ingredients to incorporate fully. When you cream your sugars and butter together it helps to whip air into your mixture, creating a fluffy cookie! No one wants a dense cookie, right?
- Next we add in our peanut butter, eggs and vanilla. Allow them to incorporate fully before moving on.
- Scraping down the sides of your bowl is important to making sure sugar and other ingredients don’t get stuck in the bottom of your mixing bowl.
- Gradually add in your flour and baking soda, being careful to mix only until combined. If you over mix your batter at this step, you will end up with a dense cookie.
- Gently fold in your oats, m&m’s and chocolate chips
- Measure your cookie dough into 2 tablespoon sized balls of dough. I find this to be the perfect size! The cookies will look a little under baked when you take them out. They will continue to bake while resting on the tray before transferring to the cooling rack. Do not over bake!! This is so crucial for these cookies. If you over bake them, they will become crunchy instead of chewy!
- Bake for 8-10 minutes. Allow to cool on the baking tray for 2 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
