Homemade Chocolate Cupcake Recipe

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This is my absolute favourite homemade chocolate cupcake recipe! They are rich, chocolatey, and super easy chocolate cupcakes to make from scratch.

I have a serious love affair with cupcakes. They are the perfect bite size treat! Such a great size in fact that they make you think it’s okay if you eat 5…

This is my go to recipe for chocolate cupcakes. It’s the only recipe I ever use! (also the same batter as my fluffy chocolate cake!) These cupcakes are simple and delicious.

You'll Love Them

  • You only need two bowls! One for your wet ingredients and one for your dry ingredients. You could even get away with a large measuring glass and one bowl!!
  • They are rich, moist, and full of chocolate flavour
  • Ready in under 30 minutes!

A few notes about the best homemade chocolate cupcake recipe EVER!

  1. The batter will be thin, this is okay!!
  2. Fill your cupcake liners ⅔rds full!
  3. Fresh coffee is key to intensifying the chocolate flavour. If you don't want to use coffee, you can substitute with hot water.

I’ve paired these cupcakes with American style chocolate buttercream. It brings a sweet nostalgia of my childhood!! If you'd prefer them with vanilla buttercream frosting you can grab my Swiss meringue buttercream recipe instead.

Love cupcakes? I think you'll enjoy these peanut butter chocolate cupcakes too!

Ok so I have to start this by saying I usually hate chocolate cupcakes. They are usually too dry or just not the right consistency. These are 🔥! I absolutely LOVED them! They were chocolatey, moist and delicious 😋. My whole family devoured them. Thanks again for another fantastic recipe ❤️
